In December 2007, IDRC convened a group of eminent people who were instrumental in supporting democratic struggles in their countries. The group, made up of human rights defenders, policymakers, former politicians, and academics, spoke to the role that donor assistance can, and cannot, play in supporting democratic forces under authoritarian or undemocratic regimes.
